It was a breezy day...cool, but not cold, with a crispness to the air that brought a feeling of exhilaration when one stepped outside. It was days like this that made Joran Vontu feel the most content. The freshness of the air seemed to remind him of something he couldn't quite remember.
As he gazed out over the field, he sighed slightly. It was a beautiful sight: the tall, thick grass, gently wafting in the breeze, lit in a deep golden red by the setting sun. This was, of course, quite a contrast from the cold, uneven stone wall he was sitting on top of, his legs folded up against his chest.
It had been quite a long week of classes, and he was looking forward to the day of meditation and rest that he could now enjoy. Hopefully.

'Don't think you can get away from me that easily, I'll get you!'
The voice seemed to call out from nowhere, piercing Joran's still atmosphere like a rhino through a brick wall. It was soon followed by the sound of footsteps running, drawing closer with every second before a form shot around the corner directly ahead of the sitting Kel'Dor.
A young human boy, probably no older than seventeen or eighteen with jet black hair tied tightly back in a ponytail that dangled behind him as he ran. Those were the immediately noticeable features, but as he got closer to the wall it was obvious that the now-visibly tall boy's sprinting speed was thanks in large part to his long legs.
In his left hand was a tightly clenched blue flag.
Sparing a quick glance back over his shoulder he saw nobody and headed for the wall at break neck speed, straight for Joran.
At the last second he leaped , caught his foot on the flat surface and pulled himself up and over the wall beside Joran, landing on the soft grass on the other side with a thud.
Spinning, he looked at Joran and held up his finger as if to say 'shhh', then remained perfectly still.
Suddenly, from around the same corner came a younger human girl, maybe fifteen or so with long brown hair. She looked around for a moment as she panted for breath, then spotted Joran and headed towards him.
"Excuse me, did you see anyone run by here holding a flag? We're playing capture the flag and he has ours..." She asked while huffing for breath as she walked up to the wall he was sitting on and looked up at him curiously.

"Uh..." Joran stammered at first. It quickly occurred to him that lying to someone who had abilities with the Force was not always the easiest task. He shifted slightly, feeling the gritty concrete through his lightweight cloth robe. "I saw him go past but I'm not sure where he went," he said. "He went running off that way," he said, indicating off to the right with a long, clawed finger. "Pretty fast, too."
"Ok, thanks!" the girl replied quickly. She quickly turned, her boot making a scrap against the stone tile, and took off running, her pony tail swinging back and forth as she darted down the pathway.
Joran turned back around, after the girl had gone around the corner, and eyed up the Human under his solid black goggles that protected him from the toxic (to him, anyway) gasses of Dantooine's atmosphere. "Care to explain?" he said in a half teasing tone, his voice having a slightly metallic tinge to it.

The young boy waited for a long few seconds after the girl's footsteps disappeared before standing up and brushing himself off with a relieved huff.
"Thanks, they've been running after me all the way from the Western entrance. My legs were starting to get tired." He said as he picked a leaf out of his black Padawan's robes. Aside from the unusually dark color, they seemed to be a mostly standard affair. A loose tunic and pants with a jerkin overtop and a pair of all-purpose calf-high boots that the Jedi Order seemed to favor.
What was possibly more surprising was the fact that when Joran looked into his eyes, a pair of uniquely red and blue heterochromatic eyes looked back.
"Ah, about that... We're getting ready for the Tournament next month by playing capture the flag." He explained sheepishly as he rubbed the back of his neck with a nervous grin. "Getting kinda old to be a Padawan without a master, and I'd rather not be sent to the AgriCorps..." He added.
"I'm Jeth, by the way. Jeth Corridore." He said before bowing politely.

Joran, still sitting cross-legged on the stone wall, bowed, his exceedingly skinny form allowing him to achieve almost a full bow despite being seated. "A pleasure to meet you, Jeth," he replied. "My name is Joran Vontu."
Joran quickly hopped off of the wall, his boots making a light thud as he landed on the solid stone tile. "I was just transferred here from the Enclave on Ossus...one of the Masters from here was visiting and he asked me to return with him," Joran explained, doing his best to restrain his excitement, "So I'm sort of hoping he may take me as his Padawan," he continued.
Noticing the slightly dejected look on Jeth's face, Joran realized that he hadn't started off on a completely positive note, with all of his bragging...that was not a Jedi-like thing to do. "I'm sure you'll be taken soon, though," he assured. "It seems like the Masters all sort of take Padawans at once," Joran continued, sounding as optimistic as he could.

Jeth gave an offhanded shrug at the attempt to boost his optimism on the matter and offered a lopsided smirk in return.
"Ahwell... What is it the Masters say? 'There are no bad endings, there is only what the Force wishes of us'?" He quoted half-heartedly as his smirk wavered. Maybe it was true, but that didn't mean that it wouldn't be a disappointment if he became a farmer instead of a Jedi Knight.
Using his tall stature to reach up and grip the lip of the wall, he clambered up quickly and swung a leg over to plop down with a leg on each side. He glanced around quickly for any more pursuers before relaxing some more.
"I'll wait them out some more. They'll probably try and set a trap for me closer to the red base anyways, I figure if I out-patience them, they'll spread out to find me and give me some openings." He explained without being asked.
If one thing held true for Jeth - who also sometimes went by the nickname 'Jet' because of his speed - it was that he had no shortage of things to say to anybody who got a chance to listen.
"So, a transfer from Ossus, huh? What's it like there. I heard it was alot like here, but I've never been there. Never really been anywhere except here... Never had a Master who wanted to take me along, though there are alot of good students here who deserved it too, so I'm not bitter about it." He fired off in quick succession as if he'd had way too much sugar that morning. "Which master was it? Was it Master Nel? I heard he had just returned from a trip..."

Joran nodded, the mask covering most of his face obscuring his amusement. "Yeah, Master Nel...he visited my Microbiology class and gave us a sneak peak at a new bacteria discovered growing in the sewers on Coruscant," Joran said with obvious enthusiasm. He had always loved the sciences - particuarly molecular and microbiological - and Nel was one of the Jedi Order's leading molecular scientists. "Me and him ended up sitting after class and talking for a long time, and that's when he asked me to come along."
It always surprised Joran how people seemed to think that all the Jedi did was study the Force...they never appreciated how many Jedi were actually avid learners in other areas: some enjoyed music, or art, while others enjoyed science or galactic history. While studying the Force and learning the practices that a person traditionally thought of when they thought of a Jedi Knight - the Lightsaber, levitating objects with the mind - were quite important, they were not the singular goal in a Jedi's life.
"But Ossus is nice...alot like here. Fairly temperate climate, a little dry for my taste though. The ruins are spectacular...I never got around to seeing the ruins of the Great Library, though," he added with slight disappointment. "The Council doesn't like just anybody wandering in."

"I'd love to see something besides grass, sometimes... Like Coruscant or Nar Shaddaa. I can't believe they have entire planets covered in cities." Jeth responded before looking up to the blue sky above.
'I think he's over here!' A familiar female voice called out from nearby. And just like that, Jeth was gone.
Although he didn't go very far. With a sudden toss, he hurled himself off the wall and fell back to the ground below with a thud, only to lay still.
Once again, the same group from before ran back from the way they'd come.
"I thought I heard his voice from this direction..." The girl said, casting a suspicious glance at Joran.
One of the other boys sighed and shook his head. "You're too confident, Maya. I don't think you can hear that well with the help of the Force..."
The girl sighed and nodded in dejection. "I could have sworn I heard him..."

Joran looked over at the group, quickly trying to decide what his next move would be. "He did come through here...he stopped and talked to me for a second, then he took off running back where you and him had come from," he said, indicating Maya and the passageway she had chased Jeth through earlier.
"Alright, th-" Maya began.
"Attention, will all Padawans please report to the main audience hall in 20 minutes," announced a voice from the intercom.
Joran glanced up towards the wall where the small speaker sat, curious why they would call all of the Padawans for an impromptu meeting. "I wonder what that's about..." he wondered aloud.

A blue flag suddenly flew over the wall and landed at Maya's feet before Jeth suddenly popped up and leaned over it with a cheerful grin.
Maya looked like she was somewhere between betrayal and defeat.
"Looks like I win again, Maya!" Jeth said brightly before jumping up and over the wall and landing on his feet for once.
The girl gave him a grumpy look and bent down to pick up the flag. "Only because you were saved by the announcement. We would have found you eventually!" She protested.
Jeth looked back at Joran. "Really? You already ran by me twice. I could have sat here and talked to my buddy Joran all week, right?" He asked the Kel'Dor.
Maya shot Joran a grumpy look. "Liar..." She muttered under her breath. Obviously she didn't like to lose very much.
"You're not even playing fair. You're on your own team. Its impossible to keep track of one person..." She said, swatting Jeth in the arm.
Rubbing his now-sore arm, the black haired boy looked back at her. "Is it unfair, or is it wise, young padawan?" He asked.
"Augh!" Maya immediately vented her annoyances before turning and walking away towards the audience chamber. The other two boys stuck around for a second to be proper good sports and congratulate Jeth and apologize for Maya before following after her.
Jeth watched them go with a bemused smile.
"Aaaaah she'll be okay by dinner..." He said before turning back to his newly appointed buddy Joran. "Well, shall we get going?"
