Where we’ve been…
Chiruresu Fletcher, was a normal member of the Gotei in almost every fashion. It was but a single kidnapping case that forever changed his life forever. Chasing down the kidnapper and saving the child, Chiruresu was told that it was not the only kidnapping that had occurred recently. A village elder nursed the man’s injuries and him that this was not the first nor the last time that children would be taken. Confused as to the reason the Gotei had done little to stop this, Fletcher took matters into his own hands.
Chiruresu shadowed some of the kidnappers to a horrid place. Discovering a darkened crypt, the shinigami had found were all the missing children had gone. Used as a sacrificing platform, the crypt was littered with almost countless graves of children. It was here that the Tenth division member was confronted by a lone figure known as Half-Mask. After conversing with the man, Chiruresu was attacked by hundreds of lesser hollows. Barely escaping the tome with his life, Chiruresu made it back to his barracks. It was here that many eyes began to turn and focus on the young shinigami.
It was here that the man began to gain a correspondence with an unknown ally. From this point, Chiruresu and this unknown party began to piece together many elements and began to unravel something far greater reaching than either could’ve imagined. Everything came to a head with reports of escalating violence along the outlying villages. Gotei guard squads began to come under fire and attacks to the point where they were either not going on their routes or not coming back all together.
Gathering a small band of division members, Chiruresu, now a seasoned shinigami, ventured to the village that seemed to be at the center of growing insurrection. After splitting up, Fletcher was the first to enter the village. What he found was wonton destruction and death. Chiruresu saw numerous bandits congregating everywhere. Everyone seemed to be facing, staring even, at a massive altar at the village’s entrance. After sneaking into the destroyed village, the man witnessed several dark robed men chanting. Witnessing the remains of his squad dragged into the village and deposed among the dead, hope began to drip away. In his search of another place of surveillance, Chiruresu noticed several crates of weapons sporting the symbols of several Noble houses.
From behind the crates, Chiruresu spied the one that he had faced in the crypt that day. The voice spoke of revolution, return to the olden ways, and finally resurrection. At a small signal, two of the guards walked out and with them was a lone girl. It was the girl that had always kept a place in Chiruresu’s heart; it was Serena his only love in life. She was to be used as the final sacrifice to open the doorway and pave the way for the gods of old to enter the Soul Society.
Upon seeing Serena, Fletcher noticed that the village he was currently in, half that was destroyed while the other half burned, was in fact his home village. Chiruresu had not recognized his own home due to all the death and destruction that had come to reside. Possessed by a rage unlike any other in his life, Chiruresu began to make his way towards the altar, killing every bandit that stood in his way.
With massive explosions, Chiruresu made his presence known to all and threw the ceremony into chaos. Dealing with the mad Half-Mask, Fletcher took hold of the hypnotized Serena and brought her back to consciousness. The reunion was short lived however, taking the opportunity, Half-Mask drove his own sword into Chiruresu’s back and through his chest. Thrown to the side and left to die, Fletcher watched as Serena was dragged away and he was left to die.
Retreating to the workings of his soul, Chiruresu conversed with his sword’s spirit, Kaminari. It was here that Fletcher gained the valued knowledge of both himself and the bond with his sacred blade. Returning to consciousness, the shinigami unleashed his Shikai with resounding force. Cutting through everything in his way, Fletcher made a straight line towards Serena and Half-Mask, following them into the village encircling forests. Encountering Half-Mask’s two bodyguards, Chiruresu followed the looping trail back to the sacked village and confronted Half-Mask for the final time. As the fight progressed however, the mad sorcerer completed the rights and finished his sacrifice.
Defeating the final barrier between himself and Half-Mask, Chiruresu charged the wizard. Their battle tossed fire and purple lighting into the air. But this small victory was blown away as the blow threw away the villain’s mask. Facing Chiruresu truly for the first time, Fletcher saw that his hated enemy was actually his most believed person, his father figure, The Elder.
Shaken to the core, Flethcer’s resolve was almost broken completely. It was here that The Elder told Chiruresu everything. How it was all his plan, to raise the Old Gods and rule all of Soul Society. To do this, The Elder raised Chiruresu as well as his own children to be the final sacrifices go open the way. Madness had fully taken root in the aged man as he spoke of grandeur and for the greater good of all. It was suddenly that these plans turned to dust as The Elder himself was attacked from behind. Stained with blood, a pale hand burst through the Elder’s chest, snuffing out his life almost instantly.
Seeing the love his life possessed by a greater hollow, Chiruresu had no choice but to battle Serena to the death. Ignoring her offerings, Fletcher fought against the creature with everything he had-almost every ounce of blood, sweat, and tears were used.
The end of the battle came in the form of the creature about to use it’s final attack to erase Chiruresu from all existence. In a well timed kick, the shinigami shut the monster’s jaw just as it fired its massive cero blast. The resounding explosion rocked everything to its foundations. Ash, dust, and overall chaos were thrown into the air and when it all began to settle, the altar itself was destroyed. This however, was not with out cost. Greatly injured, Chiruresu barely got to his feet to survey the damage. Not to be outdone, the monster to arose from the ash. Also heavily injured, it faced off against the shinigami in what would be the final strike of their war against each other.
With the final strike give to the monster, Fletcher looked down at the creature as it reverted back into the woman he loved. Unknown to him, thousands of hollow had been attracted by the battle and were now descending upon the destroyed village. Finally having Serena was bittersweet for the shinigami as she fell to her grievous injuries. All hope the man had held onto fell away as the monsters came to claim the victor for themselves.
Meanwhile a faint whisper began to stir. Its voice enticed Chiruresu and took hold of his attention. The doorway to the beyond was still open, albeit just barely. The spirit that had took hold in Serena was now trying its best to take root in Chiruresu, with promises of defending the Soul Society against an even greater threat that was just on the horizon. Just as he was about to fall to the spirit’s spell, Chiruresu stopped. Images of Serena danced before his mind’s eye. Sensing the shinigami retreating, the spirit lunged at the greatly injured man only to be stopped by something else entirely.
A second spirit stopped the creature and forced it back to which it came. Though he could not completely know for sure, Chiruresu could sense a certain calm and sense of peace flow over him. Turning away from the now fully destroyed gateway, Fletcher saw that Serena’s body had vanished. Before he could question the occurrence, a hell moth landed at his shoulder. Proclaiming high alert, Fletcher looked toward the Gotei. The great calamity had truly begun, what he had just experienced was only just the beginning.
