Sitting at the edge of a rooftop, a lone man looks out over the expanse of the massive city. With so much light emitted into the sky, it was like the sun never went down. Horns and sirens, the pounding of passing music, people laughing and screaming. All of it was occurring under the man’s swinging feet. Having only arrived in the city a few months prior, everything still felt alien. Though it was better than being executed or rotting in a cell, it wasn’t by much.
There was so much light and sound that occurred in the city that it almost made the man dizzy. He recognized the language that was spoke to be German and that the city itself was an important; he based this fact due to the city’s size and number of huge, skyscraping buildings within its borders. Everything else paled in comparison to the aura the city itself produced. Death was steeped in almost everything and everywhere in the city. The shinigami had never felt this much or this many dark pressures in one place. In past missions to the mortal realm, he had felt his fair share of darkness but this city was almost on a whole other level.
Out of all mortal cities, this one had seen more than its fair share of dark times and events.
With the sheer size of the city being overwhelming as it was, the man chose, in an ironic twist, the city’s largest church to be his official ‘base of operations.’ In the short time since his arrival, Chiruresu had killed hundreds of lesser hollows in the area. Thankfully, larger, more powerful hollows had not sensed his presence but the seasoned shinigami knew it would be only a matter of time. Another problem was the threat of Gotei and Noble house assassins showing up at any moment.
Sitting atop the church’s rooftop, Fletcher knew it would be a matter of time before a perfect storm of all three elements would descend upon himself and the German city. A dry wind played with the man’s hair as he watched several cars go by, with German police speeding after them seconds later.
A light hiss interrupted Fletcher’s contemplation. It echoed from the church’s courtyard as fearful whimper soon followed. Sighing, Chiruresu turned and walked towards the courtyard’s open space. Down below, a priest was backing himself into a corner, hand up at his face to ward something away. Fifteen feet in front of the whimpering man of the cloth was monster. It had spindly arms and legs. At the end of these appendages were claws formed for just one purpose, ripping flesh from bone. With a small midsection, the hollow looked to have no neck or head.
Leaping to the other side of the courtyard, Chiruresu got a better look at the creature and surmised the reason for its lack of head and neck. Encased in a bone white mask, the hollow’s crimson eyes bore down upon the helpless human. Serrated teeth protruded from the monster’s mouth as he slowly worked its jaw up and down. The priest was now reciting scripture in his German tongue as the nightmare inched closer, savoring the man’s crying. A thick pink tongue wiggled it’s way between the hollow’s teeth. As it moved left to tight, a almost soothing cooing began to be emitted from the devilish creature.
“-It’s almost like its tasting the air like a snake. Drinking the priest’s fear. This is not normal behavior for a hollow of this stage-”
The monster slowly made its way towards the openly weeping man. With each face only a few inches apart, the hollow seemed to be looking though the priest. Saliva oozed from the hollow’s exposed tongue as it began to encircle the human man’s entire head. At the last second, a shiver ran through the hollow’s body. Screaming in pain, the thick tongue of the monster fell to the ground, turning into ash as soon as it touched the dirt. Dark red blood sprayed everywhere as the grey creature screamed in pain. Backing up several steps, the monster’s arms were flinging everywhere, trying to bat away whatever it was that attacked it.
Just behind the screaming hollow, Chiruresu flicked his blade to the side, dark red blood flew onto the nearby grass, quickly evaporating into buffs of smoke. “You enemy is here,” cooed the shinigami. Hearing the outlaw’s voice caught the thing’s attention. Turning towards the source of the sound, the hollow’s scarlet eyes finally beheld the shinigami. A scream of pure rage erupted from the bone white mask. Blood and saliva flew from the monster’s mouth as it stormed at its attacker.
